Volunteers Helping Foster Youth Students

Dorm Move-in

UCLA has 100+ Foster Youth students.

These students have overcome barriers such as homelessness, family mental health issues,
and abuse throughout their lives and are extremely resilient.

Each Sept we gather donations and volunteers to ensure that every student can move into their dorm with the basic essentials they need!

What we provide

It costs >$500 per student just for the very basics!

Each Student Receives:

  • Sheets, blankets, pillow, mattress pad, bath towels

  • Laundry Bag, Laundry Detergent, Hangers

  • Power strip, Lamp, and Fan (most dorms have no AC)

  • Shower Caddy and Toiletries: Soap & Soap Case, Shampoo & Conditioner, Toothpaste, Toothbrush & Cover, Razors, Shaving Cream, Tampons, Deodorant, Advil, Cold Medicine, Bandaids, Face Mask, Purell

Donations

Our grassroots effort has grown larger than our garage over the years, so we’re delighted to join forces with Ready To Succeed LA.  RTS provides intensive mentoring, internships and ongoing support to foster youth throughout their college careers. Only 3% of Foster Youth graduate college in the US. 94% of RTS scholars graduate college and 92% find full time jobs within 6 months of graduation.

If you prefer to donate directly to UCLA, please do! These funds will not be used in our dorm room efforts but will go to valuable social work programs including scholarships, study groups, financial and logistical support of students. Donate Directly to UCLA Bruin Guardian Scholars Budget

If your company can donate products in bulk please email taniaksuster@gmail.com
